SEWANEE PRAISES: Community Introduction & Design Display

The Roberson Project invites the greater Sewanee community — students, faculty, staff, townspeople — to explore the Sewanee Praises project and learn how this collaborative initiative is working to honor the history of Sewanee’s Black St. Mark’s community. This special event will introduce the university campus and the wider community to the project’s vision, progress, and purpose.

The program will include an overview of the project’s journey to design and construct a commemorative structure on the site of the Kennerly School, a segregated school built in 1949 and demolished in 2010. Guests will also have the opportunity to view a design display in the library’s lobby, showcasing the thoughtful work of architecture and design students from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and Virginia Tech.

This event is free and open to the public. We encourage all members of the university and surrounding communities to attend and engage with this meaningful initiative.
